The CH-135 Twin Huey is a twin engine, single-rotor (two-bladed)
helicopter designed to transport troops into combat operations. It
can accomodate 12 troops with weapons only, 10 with packs in summer
or 8 with packs in winter; or, 6 casualty evacuation litters. It can
also be used for VIP transport or, equipped with a rescue hoist, for
search and rescue operations. While it will never be directly replaced,
the CF has taken delivery of 100 new CH-146
Griffons to serve in tactical and combat support roles that used
to be the responsibility of the Huey. The retirement of the CH135 from the CF inventory was completed on 2 Jul 97 when Capt Blair Springate and Capt Jake Trainor delivered the last Twin Huey to Mountain View from 427 Sqn in Petawawa.
