The Labrador is currently in use in the Canadian Military, serving as
a Search-and-Rescue platform. Each airframe has approximately 15,000
hours on it. The Airframe entered service in 1963, and was known as the 'Voyageur'. 13 airframes were purchased as support to the army, and most are still flying. Renamed to 'Labrador' in 1967 to reflect the equipment upgrades and change from a tactical role to a Search-and-Rescue role, this aircraft can recover people from any type of terrain through the use of the winch mounted over the side door. 1978 saw the beginning of a 5 year program of a fleet upgrade, and the black bump you can see on the nose is the radar which was installed in the early 1980's.
