CANADAIR

CL-84b.gif (7937 bytes)

CL-84-1 Dynavert In the 1960s, Canadair developed an aircraft that could hover like a helicopter, or fly  with STOL capability. 4 were built, this is 402 in the paint she wore for her Canadian Armed Forces evaluation. The best of the pre-Osprey convertiplanes, 402 now resides in the Canadian Aviation Museum in Ottawa.
By Klaus D. Werr
Want something to almost hover if you haven't got pedals or a Sidewinder yet? The doubled parts drove me nuts designing it, but it sure is fun to fly! Watch the pitch-up when adding flaps.

FLETTNER

kolibri.jpg (35534 bytes)

Fl-282 Kolibri (Hummingbird) Design finalized in 1940. The first real helicopter production program. This was one of two types of German helicopters to reach squadron service in WWII. This version depicts the second prototype. By Klaus D. Werr

This bird's development program pre-dated Sikorsky's R-4 by almost 3 years! Used by the Army to spot artillery and guide tanks, and by the Navy to locate submarines.

Kamov Ka-25 Hormone-A.
First seen in 1961, this interesting
helicopter was in service with the Soviet Navy until 1975 as a shipborne ASW platform, flying crane and transport for up to 12 Navy troops. The main rotor assembly used co-axial contra-rotating rotors to eliminate the tail rotor. This is a Kamov trademark. About 460 built Photorealistic textures

By Klaus D. Werr

The late 1940's and 1950's saw the emergence of a whole pile of "Flying Bananas". This one had an odd shape that appealed to me. Easy to fly.

MIL DESIGN BUREAU

mi-6a.jpg (40021 bytes)

Mil Mi-6 "Hook"
Transport & heavy assault helicopter. Ready to fly some Soviet big iron? In service from 1957, this beast quickly set 14 FAI helicopter records, some of which still stand. First Soviet helicopter to use wings to help unload the main rotor, some 860 were built. Crew of 5, 70 troops with gear, or 41 casualties, or 90 passengers. "/" key operates rear clamshell doors and ramp. Includes panel and sounds.
By Klaus D. Werr

This is a big bird in every sense. It's definitely not a trainer, but it is quite flyable. Pay attention to the tail rotor at low speeds. Improved performance for hot/high operation.
